Vallarai Thogayal / Thuvaiyal (Brahmi Leaves Chutney)

Vallarai Thogayal / Thuvaiyal (Brahmi Leaves Chutney), It is Easy, Tasty and Healthy side dish.

Ingredients

  • Vallarai keerai - 2 cups
  • Urad dal / Ulunthu paruppu - 2 tbsp
  • Channa dal  / Kadala paruppu - 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli - 4
  • Ginger - little
  • Coconut grated - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - ½ tsp
  • Salt - as needed
  • Oil 3 tbsp

Method

  • Rinse the keerai thoroughly with water,
  • Heat the kadai with 1 tbsp of oil, add Urad dal, Bengal gram and Red chilli.
  • Saute till dal turns light brown and keep it aside.
  • Add 1 tbsp of oil in the same kadai. Add Ginger, keerai and saute it for 2 minutes.
  • Allow the sauteed items to set for a while.
  • In a mixer jar, add sauteed keerai, dals, Red chilli, Salt and Coconut.
  • Grind it into a smooth paste with required water.
  • Temper mustard seed with oil and add it to thogayal.

  • It is ready to be served along with Idli, Dosa or Rice.


Note: Don’t add tamarind to the thogayal.
