The Wharton School has said that it regretted the confusion caused by the cancellation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the Wharton India Economic Forum. Mr. Modi’s speech was cancelled following protests by faculty and students who questioned his presence after being denied a US visa due to alleged communal violence during the Gujarat riots.

In its statement, Wharton said, ‘The student organisers of the upcoming Wharton India Economic Forum have announced that they have cancelled the proposed keynote address by Narendra Modi. We appreciate the efforts our students have put forth in organising this event and regret any confusion that may have been caused by the change in programme.’
