There was a debate on the special attention issues conducted during the Legislative Assembly session. In the constituency of the Chennai Port, MLA P K Sekar Babu (DMK), in the Kalynapuram Project, a 14-storeyed residential building is to be constructed. This has to be converted to an 8-storeyed building. The pavement dwellers must be provided with accommodation in the Perumbakkam residential locations. There are 3500 vacant apartments in that place. The Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneselvam informed that the pavement-dwellers will be allotted places here.

As per the CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) Rules and Regulations, it is permitted to construct buildings up to a height of 90 metres accommodating 19 storeys.  A decision was taken to construct a15-storeyed apartment building of 396 apartments at a cost of Rs. 13.32 Lakhs per apartment.

Later, the plan was changed to construct 4 sections of 10-storeyed buildings. In this area and the surrounding Buckingham Canal area, over 100 families are living. Based on the demand made by the MLA regarding that these families should also be allotted apartments in the above construction, a detailed review meeting will be conducted with the experts in the field and a decision will be taken.

The list of pavement-dwellers is under preparation. As per this list and the eligibility status, accommodations will be allotted in the vacant apartments in the Perumbakkam building.
