Founded in the year 1958, Aavin is a trademark of TN Cooperative Milk Producers Federation or TNCMPF and is involved in buying, processing and selling of milk and other milk products to the customers. This Aavin is now making sensational news.
It is well known that from 1st of January 2019 the state of TN has banned the use of plastics so that the plastics dont get dumped creating many health issues. Every day Aavin uses close to 40 lakh plastic milk packets to distribute around 23 lakh litres of milk are known. It is now said that Aavin would is planning to roll out a buy back policy and as per the policy it would collect the used plastic sachets at the aavin depots and from other zonal office by using delivery boys. The main objective behind this buy back policy is to prevent the customers from disposing the plastic milk covers in the garbage bins.
Mr. Kamaraj, managing director of Aavin shared his thoughts on this buy back policy. He spoke about how modalities of taking back the used plastic covers were worked out. He explained about the plastic films getting damaged during the filling process at the dairies and said these films were auctioned off through MSTC Limited. He finally added that MSTC Ltd services would also be utilised for covers too.
The important point is the state government had exempted milk and oil from the ban on the single-use plastics and the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation has already begun replacing plastics with other materials. To serve hot milk for the customers at the Aavin parlours, TNCMPF had turned to stainless steel tumblers and ceramic cups etc from 1st of January 2019 is known. Soon plastic straws would also be replaced with paper straws and these plastic straws comes with flavoured milk cartons is well known. As per Mr. Kamaraj, once the current batch of plastic straws gets over new paper straws would be introduced. He revealed about the usage of 4 lakh straws every month in Chennai city in the non-peak months. He added that this number gets doubled from March to June.
