Founded in 1974, Foxconn is a multinational electronics contract manufacturing company having headquarters in New Taipei is well known. This company has shut down its operations in Sriperumbudur near Chennai in the year 2015.
The amazing piece of news that has come out now is Foxconn would soon start assembling premium brand smart phones in Sriperumbudur as the state government has given its approval for an investment proposal by this company. Vibrant industrial policy has been responsible for the above as well as other developments that are taking place now. This was confirmed by chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami. The important point is Tamil Nadu has now become the second largest state economy in India and TN had contributed 8.4 % to GDP of India. It must not be forgotten that the industrial policy had triggered the growth and development of electronics and other industries.
The Chief Minister of TN made his presence felt at the second GIM at the Chennai Trade Centre on Wednesday, 23rd January 2019 is known. The chief minister spoke about how the government had approved an investment proposal by Foxconn to assemble premium smart phones at Sriperumbudur near Chennai. He expressed his happiness regarding the power supply and said the investments in the electricity sector done by former chief minister of TN, Dr. J. Jayalalitha were amazing. He added that these investments ensured that TN that was once power deficient state in 2011 has gone to become power surplus state.
As a base for assembling high end iPhone models, Foxconn is looking towards TN now. To expand its Indian facilities, Taiwan based contract manufacturer, Foxconn, is trying its best now. It is well known that presently Foxconn is involved in assembling smartphones for firms like Xiaomi in India. In the month of December in 2018, the state cabinet met with the chief minister of TN and it gave its approval to Foxconn unit in Sriperumbudur to start its work on iPhone models. The surprising piece of information is Mr. P. Thangamani, electricity minister also played a huge role in persuading Foxconn management not to go out of the state of TN.
