UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has increased the charges for correcting Aadhar card details from Rs. 30 to Rs. 50.
As some of the social welfare schemes offered by the central government went to the wrong and ineligible people, both the central and state governments incurred heavy losses on this front.
In order to prevent such maloperations, the central government introduce d the system of using the fingerprints and the pupil of the eye and issue Aadhar cards based on these. In order to implement this, UIDAI was started.
Whenever the people/citizens change their address and change the mobile numbers, these corrections have to be carried out in Aadhar cards as well.
As the photographs of the concerned individual is sometimes not clear in the Aadhar cards, some criminals indulge in changing the photograph as well! The date of birth has been recorded wrongly in some cases. Spelling mistakes do occur. There are instances where the mobile number is not linked. Further, in some cases, details regarding fingerprint have been withheld. So, there is need to take fingerprints again.
The facility to carry out the above corrections is already available in permanent Aadhar Centres. A charge of Rs. 30 was being collected for this service. Now, this has been increased to Rs. 50.
All the children below 5 years of age who have already registered for Aadhar cards will need to give their fingerprints and eye-pupil again after completing 5 years of age.
When crossing 15 years of age, the cardholder must give the fingerprints and eye-pupil record again. UIDAI has informed that there would be no charges for these services.
