It is well known that on the East Coast Road or ECR from Akkarai to Mamallapuram many accidents take place. The latest news is soon there would be high end cameras with speed sensors and number plate detection system installed in this place. Tenders have been called for now for the installation of high end cameras. The point is this project would cost an amount of Rs 8.25 crores and funding would be got from World Bank. It must be noted that main aim of this is to keep the speed of the vehicles in check and in reducing the accidents.

The speed of the vehicles would be assessed with the help of high end cameras that would be installed at 4 locations on either side of 32 km stretch. When the speed of the vehicles goes beyond the permissible limit then the high end cameras would capture the photos of the number plates and send them to the control room. Finally speed challan would be emailed to the owner of the vehicle. This has been confirmed by a source in TN Road Sector Project which is implementing this high cameras installation project.

An official expressed his thoughts and spoke about how recently this road was made four- lane facility and how it was highly preferred by those who like to speed or drive high end cars and bikes etc. It is revealed that the road has been widened and median constructed to reduce the accidents.

The superb piece of information is head on collisions have come down in this stretch in ECR in Chennai. The point to be noted is accidents due to pedestrian and cattle crossings and vehicles getting on the main carriageway from smaller roads take place. It must be taken into account that in the month of November in 2017 there were a total of 10 accidents and in the corresponding month in 2018 there were totally 7 accidents and one was fatal. As many as 11 accidents took place in December 2017 in this stretch and it included 3 fatal accidents. In the month of December in 2018 as many as 10 accidents took place and there were no faculty.
