Creating enough job opportunities for the educated youngsters is very important and it is not done by the TN government. The craze for government jobs is still present in Tamil Nadu. These two above mentioned facts have been proved now in Tamil Nadu which is highly urbanized and industrialized state. To fill up 14 posts of sweepers and sanitary workers, TN assembly secretariat had put up an advertisement is known. To this advertisement as many as 4607 people responded and out of these there were many graduates, post graduates, diploma and professional degree holders etc.

The important point is the applicants belong to all sections of the society, caste groups and geographical regions like rural, semi-urban and from Chennai etc. As the applicants did not comply with the age criteria, the secretariat had rejected as many as 677 applications. As per the economists it is clear that the reason for highly educated youths applying for the post of sanitary workers and sweepers could be mainly because of the craze for the government jobs.

A senior official in the assembly expressed his surprise about many professional degree holders applying for the post of sanitary workers and sweepers. He said that the presence of many professional degree holders was intriguing. He revealed that the applicants had approached for the job through the employment exchange. Since the salary was Rs 17,000 per month some would have been attracted by this. The official finally spoke about how only after the LS polls the selection would be finalized.

The important piece of information gathered was majority of applicants out of 3930 accepted have studied till 10th or 12th class. A graduate applicant spoke about how he was getting low salary presently and how the salary for the post of sanitary workers and sweepers attracted him and made him to apply for these government posts.

As per Mr. M. Vijayabaskar, labour economist, many engineers and other graduates are jobless in Tamil Nadu now. Shifting of the companies from labor centric production to machine centric production was also one main reason for the unemployment and this inspite TN being an industrialized state.
