ICF by the year 2020 to make 3400 coaches

Recently Integral Coach Factory or ICF in Chennai started expansion works under phase-2 after having completed modernization works under phase-1 is known. This ICF of Chennai would achieve the phase-1 target of producing 3400 coaches by the year 2020.

It is worth mentioning that as a part of phase-2 extension ICF had begun works for building shell unit for LHB coaches at the land at eastern side of shell division. The eastern side of shell division shares its border with the adjacent Perambur loco works is known. The important information collected was parcel of land owned by Perambur loco works was transferred to ICF.

Principal Chief mechanical engineer of ICF, Mr. Shubhranshu shared his thoughts. He spoke about how the manufacturing capacity has been augmented to produce 900 coaches additionally in the last 2 years of time. He added that ICF would produce as many as 3200 coaches that included 2000 LHB coaches by March in 2019. Finally the principal chief mechanical engineer said that for the 2019-20 3400 coaches would be rolled out. The point is ICF modernization works mainly involved enhancing the efficiency of the resources without physically creating new infrastructure.

Improvement in the quality or up gradation of spring and wheel manufacturing lines has been carried out in ICF and these make part of coach bogie. It was pointed out by Mr. Shubhranshu that ICF relied on the private suppliers for the materials and these materials play an important role in ensuring the safety of the trains. The important information was in 2016-17 in ICF average employees production rate per coach was 5.2 and it was reduced to 4.4 in 2017-18. In 2018-19, the average employee production rate per coach was 3.3. It is important to note that 468 acre ICF complex has got shell division that produces skeletons of coaches at Ayanavaram facility.
