Chennai Corp. to unveil Smart parking mobile app

The Greater Chennai Corporation is eyeing on to unveil the latest smart parking mobile app this month. This encompasses totally 4583 spaces spread across Marina beach, Besant Nagar, Anna Nagar, and Purasawalkam high road.
In spaces at Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam, the civic body is setting up 193 equivalent car spaces or ECS. Here, the drivers will be bound to pay 40 per ECS as the parking fees.
This GCC Smart Parking System app shall have complete details of parking space availability at all the 4 places in the city. People can refer to this before they head for parking. As a person nears the parking slot, he will be intimated about the available parking space in closest proximity, says Director, Toorq Media Services, Mr. Tamilarasan. Toorq is notably the project service provider.
Parking fees can also be paid digitally. Parking time extension can be done as the user receives alert after 55 minutes of original parking time which indicates about the completion of parking time.
Extra cash charges will be applicable for extended hours of parking, say officials. Details such as parking duration shall get saved in the back-end server as well as the attendant’s app.
In the user’s app interface, the details about parking space availability and location and the total number of vacant slots are shown. Once they login, parking duration is mentioned, say officials from Chennai Smart City Ltd.
For this project, the Chennai corporation is figuring out 20km stretch in the aforementioned locations where CCTV monitoring will be done. Penalty shall be charged for those who park their vehicles besides the place allotted to them. In roads that are not for bus routes, charge that is 4 times that of original will be imposed.
As an initiative to give experience of the system, those visiting Marina shall be given free access for the first two months, says civic body sources.
