Travelling to be cheaper by this new shorter metro line in Chennai

On Sunday, 10 February 2019, the last leg of 45 km phase-1 from Washermanpet to AG-DMS that would link Chennai Central to airport on the shortest route of 18 km would be opened for the public.

The amazing piece of news is by this shortest route the commuters who struggle and cannot cope up with the traffic snarls could get faster and cheaper option to travel inside Chennai city now. At just Rs 40, most metro stations on the lines would be accessible for the public. The important point to be noted here is trip between any two transit hubs for example Chennai airport, Koyambedu in the Chennai city might also cost the same and this would be of 10% of cost of taking a cab.

On Thursday, 7TH February 2019, new fare chart was released and as per the new chart it is clear that a trip from Chennai Central to metro stations on Anna Salai such as Guindy, Little Mount, Saidapet, Nandanam and Teynampet etc would cost Rs 40. The important information collected is the trip to the above mentioned stations from the airport would also cost Rs 40. From the metro station where they board the train, commuters would be able to travel up to 3 stations at the cost of Rs 20 and 4 stations at the cost of Rs 30. It is worth mentioning here that the cost of the ticket in metro train from Chennai Central to airport would be Rs 60 and travelling from Koyambedu to airport of distance 14 km would cost Rs 50.

As per an official belonging to CMRL, fares have not been reduced and automatic fare collection gates would charge depending on the distance. It is known that at the automated fare collection AFC gates the smart cards are swiped. The important information is the distance between Chennai Central to airport via Koyambedu is longer and circuitous route covering 21 km when compared to the route on Anna Salai line of around 18 m, the automatic fare collection gates would consider the shortest route. This route would be via Anna Salai and the commuters could pay an amount of Rs 60 for the ticket.
