Are you worried about getting a pre-used smartphone? Worry not, the Chennai police has come up with an exclusive mobile application that will ease your worries. The app is called DIGI COP. It was launched on Wednesday. This is an app that can tell the buyer whether the second-hand phone a buyer purchases is truly a legitimate pre-used phone or stolen.

Dr. AK Viswanathan, the City Police Commissioner launched the mobile app that had actor Vijay Sethupathi gracing the launch event. This app aims at bringing down the overall of mobile theft. The app can also be used for registering complaints about stolen mobiles, and also verify if the stolen mobile is present in the retrieved mobiles list with the police officials. Furthermore, apart from mobile phones, people can also know about the retrieval status of stolen 2-wheelers as well, says a Commissioner Office press release.

How to use? The police says,

One who has lost their mobile phone – the victim can file a complaint about the theft by mentioning the IMEI number of the stolen mobile. In that case he who has stolen the phone, when inserts a new SIM card in the same phone, an SMS will be generated about the stolen phone. Further, the app will indicate about stolen mobile retrieval by the police officials.

Knowing updates about city traffic and availability of police officials nearby, etc. can also be known via the app. Many more of useful features are lined up to be added in the app.
