When it comes to education, Chennai city has started its educational era back in 1854. A far as the early years of 20th century is concerned, the city saw a number of schools germinating at different corners. On the whole, the then Chennai or better known as Madras had about 12,498 schools!

And these days, schools are either run by the government itself or by private players that get funding by the government which we call government-aided.
