The former CM of TN was uniquely popular with the special name of ‘Amma’ (mother), called by lakhs of her followers. She was the General Secretary of the ruling party AIADMK, She was the leading film heroine throughout her career in the film industry!
She was quite intelligent and had excellent memory at a young age and secure the 1st rank in the school final examination and won a gold medal! She learned Bharathanatyam and classical Karnatic music in the traditional system. But, unfortunately, due to some urgent family situation, Jayalalithaa was compelled to discontinue her studies.
She started her film career with her 1st film, ‘Vennira Aadai’ and went on to act in many more.
She acted as the heroine pairing with another popular star and politician and former Chief Minister, Dr, M.G Ramachandran in 28 films ad most of them were huge hits including Aayirathil Oruvan, Kannithaai, Thanippiravi, Mugarasi, and Kavalkaran.
Jayalalithaa also acted along with other leading heroes in the industry including Sivaji Ganesan, SSR, Jaishankar, Muthuraman, NTR, Nageswara Rao, and Dharmendra.
She acted in a total of 127 films in several languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi, She could speak in 7 languages. She was also a good singer with her evergreen popular song, ‘Amma endral Anbu’!
In the year 1980, Jayalalithaa joined MGR’s political party, AIADMK, in his presence. She was the Policy Propaganda Secretary of the party, a member of the high-level committee for the ‘Nutritious Meal‘ Scheme, and also a member of the Legislative Assembly.
After the death of MGR, though the AIADMK party split, she integrated it, strengthened it and make it a mighty political party in Tamil Nadu. She led the party with tremendous success in the legislative assembly elections conducted in the years 1991, 2001, 2011, and 2016 and led the state government as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Some of her welfare schemes, such as cradle child scheme, rain-water saving system, free rice through ration cards, Amma canteens, Women Police Stations, and free laptop systems, are still functioning in the state.
Though she focused on Tamil Nadu politics, She had a close association with other party leaders in the country including Congress, BJP, and Communist being in close touch with the leaders.
She was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu 6 times. She functioned as the General Secretary of her party for 29 years. She was a leading film star for a period of 17 years! Thus, Jayalalithaa had won many accolades throughout her life!, Further, she earned a reputation as a ‘bold lady’ in the All India political circles. Jayalalithaa is an outstanding example that women can be excellently successful in politics!
At the same time, Jayalalithaa genuinely cacared for the downtrodden and poor people of the society Jayalalithaa implemented several hugely successful welfare schemes for them! Thus, she continues in high admiration of the people, especially the poor, and still continues to live in their hearts!
