Chennai Airport to have multi level car parking facility

Following intense rounds of planning, the works to construct multi-level car parking facility has kick-started at the Chennai Airport. This will get over in another 1.5 years.

The overall car parking facility is constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore, say officials from the Airports Authority of India. There is also going to be additional facilities including mall and multiplex and hotels and food and beverage kiosks. For this, a total land area of 4.25 acres within the airport is chosen. Recently, the construction works have started. It will take about 18 months to get entirely completed. The construction is going on at both the sides of Chennai Metro Rail station that lies within the Airport. As the construction gets over, there will be more space for car parking facility at the airport. There are a number of transit passengers that look for comfortable stay close to airport. Say, they need to stay overnight, this new facility will help them out and be beneficial, say officials.

Construction works are to handed over in contract basis to Olympia Group and the works will be carried out by Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

On both the sides of the station, there are going to be parking facilities at 27m height. This includes 6 level parking on one side and 7 level in the other side.

On the whole, a number of 2,237 cars can be parked at a time while the present parking capacity is 1200. This will be of help when the demand increases as we near 2030.

Furthermore it can also get connected to travellator that connects international and domestic terminals.

The idea of building commercial complex including malls and multiplex is to facilitate residents in the neighborhoods.
