Internet service providers in India have blocked websites including Telegram and Reddit, thus raising questions about enforcing net neutrality.
It is very common in India to have curbing on torrent sites that do not provide access to movie or music downloading. The court orders have also blocked pornography website, considering children.
However, recently, the websites including Reddit or Telegram (messaging platform) and College Humor, a comedy website have got intermittently blocked for a few days, to note, and that too in specific regions, thus leaving all the internet users perplexed.
There is no clue as to what is happening, say experts. Blocking these sites have got no notification of any kind.
Since the beginning of this year, there are over 250 website blocking reports on Jio network, Bharti Airtel and Hathway. To note, Jio and Airtel are the two main telecom providers in India. There are several snapshots of these blocked sites which carries notification about the government orders as the reason behind blocking.
On accessing collegehumor.com, the notification put up is that the URL has got blacked, abiding by the instructions from Department of Telecommunications of Government of India.
