In Chennai, Royapettah is very important place and this Royapettah is making sensational news now. The information collected is residents of a street in Royapettah have stopped the construction of a gas refuelling station here. This has now attracted the attention and is being discussed by many.

Last week Hanumantha Road residents association were totally shocked and surprised because of the activities that took place in a vacant plot there. It is said that the activities were due to construction of a gas refuelling station at that place in Royapettah.

According to the residents of that street in Royapettah, the vacant plot is less than 500 m away from 2 schools and a transformer.  The residents were worried about the fire hazards plus large crowd that would be present there.

A member of the association spoke his heart out. He said that there are very few gas stations in Chennai city and there are 2 gas stations present in the Royapettah High Road. He threw light on the traffic jams that takes place in the Royapettah High Road due to these 2 gas stations and said he and other residents do not want that to happen in their quiet residential street. It must be noted that the association submitted complaint to the deputy commissioner of GCC, police commissioner, DGP and joint chief controller of explosives etc.

From the petition given by the association it is very clear that the approval of the residents were not sought by the authorities concerned with the construction of gas refuelling station. The petition also explained about how the storage of gas could cause serious issues for the kids who play in the street.

On Monday, an officer belonging to the fire services department surveyed the site in Royapettah. The important point is the construction of the gas refuelling station works were stopped on Saturday itself and the works didn’t restart again.
