Chennai based Anna University is now grabbing the attention of many. It is well known to us that in the past there were scams regarding the examination and evaluation of engineering answer scripts in Anna University or AU and it shocked many. Now Anna University has decided to do online evaluation of the answer scripts of the engineering students.
The important information that has come out is soon AU would send a team of professors to the popular VTU or Visvesvaraya Technological University in Belgaum in Karnataka. The main aim of this is to study its online evaluation and also the question delivery method. Vice-chancellor of AU, Mr. MK. Surappa expressed his views about the online evaluation of answer scripts and spoke about how technology based examination should be carried out in different stages.
He then explained how in the first step the delivery of question papers would be made online without physically taking them to the examination centers. The main advantage is by this method the prevention of question paper leaks is possible.
Just 30 minutes before the commencement of the examinations at the exam centers, the coded question papers would be made available. This method is being followed in VTU and was confirmed by the vice-chancellor of AU.
It is important to mention here that the invigilators must take printouts and issue question paper to the students. Then scanning would be done for the answer scripts for online evaluation once when the examination gets over. The point to be noted is the faculty members would be able to go through the answer sheets on screen. Mark is given when the answers get matched with those on the answer keys. Finally the vice-chancellor of AU pointed out that marks would be automatically added by the computer reducing errors in totaling marks.
A professor spoke about how the students frequently apply for revaluation for errors in totaling marks. Revaluation process would become easier by this method. He then added that the answer scripts being evaluated by someone else in the revaluation process. By this method the revaluation would become faster and results could be announced much earlier.
