Operation of flights to be eased by the straightening of the taxiway

AAI or Airport Authority of India would complete the straightening of taxiway soon. The news is in another 3 months of time flights would be able to reach the Guindy end of the main runway quicker for takeoff. Those flights that land from the Pallavaram end of runway to reach the terminals would be highly benefited by this.

It is worth mentioning that the taxiway having bend runs parallel to the old airport building that was being used as cargo area. This taxiway connects the terminal with the Guindy end of the main runway. It is revealed that the bend at the taxiway caused the flights to be slowed down resulting in congestion. In addition to this during the peak hours of time fuel burn on the grounds was present.

A senior official of AAI spoke about how the work was scheduled to be completed last month and it would get over by the end of July or early August. It must be noted that the work is being carried out in the phase -2 of the expansion and in this expansion airport is also building taxiways. The official explained how when the taxiway gets ready then the planes from the terminal would save around 10 minutes to reach Guindy end of the main runway to take off.  It was pointed out by the official that the rapid exit taxiways being built would help the planes that have landed to move out the runway faster so that more flight activity could be accommodated.

Old building airport has been pulled down by the AAI and once the taxiway is commissioned then there would be more parking bays for the cargo planes. It is important to note that the passengers would be taken from the terminals to the planes parked at the remote bay near the integrated cargo complex or in the parking ways present between main and second runway.
