The 1st Phase of 17th parliamentary election commenced today (11th April)

The parliamentary elections are scheduled to be conducted in 7 phases throughout the country for the 543 seats from today (Thursday, 11th April) to 19th May.

Further, elections have also be announced for the 4 Legislative Assemblies in the states of Andhra, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Odisha.

In the 1st Phase beginning today (11th April) elections are being conducted for 91 seats in 20 states. The break-up – Andhra-25, Arunachal Pradesh-2, Assam-5, Bihar-4, Chattisgarh-1, Kashmir-2, Maharashtra-7, Manipur-1, Meghalaya-2, Mizoram-1, Nagaland-1, Odisha-4, Sikkim-1, Telangana-17, Tripura-1, Uttar Pradesh-8, Uttarakhand-5, West Bengal-2, Lakhdivs-1, Andaman-Nicobar islands-1.

The election campaign in full swing for the above 91seats and the assembly elections for 4 states as mentioned above was over day-before-yesterday (Tuesday, 9th April). With the elections being conducted today, elaborate arrangements have been made for the polling.

The voting in Uttar Pradesh, Kashmir, West Bengal, Andaman and Lakhdivs commenced at 7.00AM to close by 6.00 PM.

In Andhra, voting is scheduled from 7.00 AM to 6.00 PM except for the parliamentary constituency in Arakku and the assembly constituencies. For the Arakku parliamentary and the related assembly, constituencies commence at 7.00 AM and conclude at 5.00 PM. In a few places, it is scheduled to conclude at 4.00 PM.

In Uttarakhand, voting will be from 7.00 AM to 5.00 PM. Though the voting is scheduled to start at 7.00 AM in the states of Odisha, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Andhra, Telangana, and Maharashtra, the conclusion time varies from 3.00 PM to 5.00 PM depending on the constituency.

As some of them are with intense Naxalite operations, additional security arrangements have been made.

In the Northeastern States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, and Meghalaya, voting starts by 7.00 Am and concludes at 4.00 PM without any breaks.
