India is gearing up with a ‘real’ large democratic event starting from today, the 11th April involving 29 states and 7 union territories.
From now on, until 19th May, the voting shall take place. On 23rd May, the results will be finalized. Here is a rundown of election-numbers you got to know
Voters count
- Total number of people to cast their vote in this largest election in the world will be 900 million
- Coming on to women voters, there is a total of 432 million numbers. There is no clue as to how many women would turn up for voting though. Back in 2014, there was 2-3rd women voting received
- There are over 83 million first time voters
- Between age group 18 and 19, there are 15 million voters
- Transgender community vote accounts to 38,000 votes
The voting will take place on 7 days between 11th April and 19th May.
Count on polling booths
- Across India, there is a total of 1.035 million polling booths
- In this giant election, there is going to be 3.96 million number of electronic voting machines in use
- Paper trail or trail machines is a record of voter-related documents. There will be 1.7 million of these machines to be used
- For conducting polls, about 11 million people are to be deployed
- Himachal Pradesh has the world’s polling station. It is located at Tashigang at 15,256 feet height
Parties and politics
- On the whole, there are 2,293 registered political parties
- Nomination filing is done by 8000 candidates across 543 Lok Sabha seats
- The election commission has so far seized liquor, drugs and cash worth Rs 14.6 billion thus far
