Many people belonging to the Chennai city use metro trains these days to reach their places of destination. On Monday, 29th April 2019, these Chennai metro rail passengers had tough time. The reason for that was because of sudden staff strike plus due to some technical glitches. This had resulted in stopping of the metro train services in Chennai.

It must be taken into account that around 3 pm some employees of Chennai metro rail project stopped work. The employees protested against the privatization of a part of operations plus against the dismissal of eight employees. At some metro stations in Chennai, many passengers were not given tickets due to the strike by the employees and around 9 pm in the late evening some signalling issues were reported.

The sources belonging to CMRL have confirmed that hour after that, the metro train services were stopped due to signalling problems. The information collected is in the few other metro stations important information like upcoming stations etc was not announced or displayed and it created issues for many passengers. It must be noted that earlier the passengers complained that they had to suffer delays as the trains stopped at each station for 5 to 10 minutes. As per the officials it is now clear that as many as eight persons were dismissed over complaints of misconduct at work. The point is staffs were unhappy that they were not paid on par with the contract staffs.

It is important to mention that since the staffs acted against the interests of the company, they were dismissed. This has made CMRL to issue a statement later. As per the statement of CMRL, in-connection to the recent incidents regarding the Chennai metro rail non-executive staffs protest, the diploma as well as ITI staffs have been paid well.

Important point is the non-executive staffs were paid double the market wages in addition to 5 to 10% increase. It was also mentioned that higher salaries would mean higher fare for the public and that was not sustainable. The superb piece of news is on Tuesday, 30th April 2019, there would be regular metro train services in Chennai.
