The demand for arts as well as science courses has been huge now in the colleges in the Chennai city. The latest news is the syndicate of University of Madras or MU has given its approval to add as many as 6700 seats in the above mentioned 2 courses in the colleges affiliated to MU for the current academic year. The important information gathered is atleast 42 colleges and 6 standalone institutions have already applied for increase in their seats in arts and science courses.
It was pointed out by the vice-chancellor of MU, Mr. P. Duraiswamy, that 81 undergraduate sections and 33 PG sections would be approved in the existing affiliated colleges. He added that out of 81 UG sections as many as 41 would be for the highly popular B. Com course.
For the academic year 2019-2020, total additional seats to be approved would be 5500 UG seats and 1200 PG seats. Last week, CBSE class 12 results were announced is known. It is now said that this might allow the Chennai city colleges to accommodate more students into the courses that are having huge demand. The point here is the concerns of the CBSE students of getting admissions in the colleges of their choices would be addressed easily.
The vice-chancellor of MU then explained about how instructions have been sent already to the affiliated colleges in Chennai. It must be noted that the admissions in these affiliated colleges would not be closed until CBSE results get announced. He commented that increase in the seats would be of huge benefit for both CBSE as well as state board students.
In Chennai city colleges, the university of Madras or MU has given approval to start new curses such as international studies, business economics, BVoc in tourism and hospitality, data science courses etc.
There would be many new courses that would be started because of the addition in the seats and these courses would be MA International Studies in Women’s Christian College or WCC, BA Business Economics and B. Sc (IT) in New College, M.sc (Data Science) in Loyola College, MA (Defence and Strategic Studies) in Guru Nanak College, BVoc in banking, financial services and insurance, BVoc in tourism and hospitality, B.Com Honours, MA (HRM) in Stella Mary’s College, BS ( Sanskrit) in Sri Sankara Arts and Science College, B.Com ( Professional Accounting), B. Sc ( Psychology) and M.Com (CS) in SDNB Vaishnav College, B.Com (Finance and Taxation), B.Com (Marketing Management) in D.G. Vaishnav College in Arumbakkam.
