TNSCB to set up de-addiction centres in the resettlement colonies in Chennai

In the TNSCB re-settlement colonies, there are issues like drug menace and family disputes etc. It is now revealed that as a part of the move to eliminate drug menace and need for the counselling centres to solve family disputes, TNSCB or Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board would be setting up de-addiction centres soon. It is important to note that the residents want security measures in the first place now.

The residents of different colonies including Perumbakkam, Kannagi Nagar, Gudaakam, Athipattu and Navalur have been complaining about the drug menace. It is now brought out that the TNSCB would be forming vigil groups with women as well as teenagers and they would be playing an important role in identifying drug seller and sources of drugs.

As per an official belonging to TNSCB, the women and teenagers would pass on the information regarding youngsters who are addicted to the drugs. In the next step, the list would be provided to the staffs at the de-addiction centres. He later spoke about how the demand for drugs must be cut. The official explained how the children would be provided with necessary counselling and how follow up on them would be done so that they do not succumb to the habit again.

By enrolling the kids in sports and by helping them in channelizing their energy, the kids would not get addicted to the drugs. A summer sports festival would be organized in places like Navalur, Perumbakkam etc and umpires would be roped from SDAT for the event. This was also confirmed by the official.

It must be noted that the TNSCB would also be writing to the Social Welfare Department in order to set up permanent counselling centres to solve family issues. The superb piece of information is both mother-in-law as well as daughter-in-law weeks were held and women were given counselling. It is revealed that many disputes and misunderstandings were solved in the families. The information is some residents have pointed out that the proposed facilities would be superb only when the sale of drugs and alcohol gets permanently stopped in the re-settlement colonies.

A resident belonging to Athipattu expressed her thoughts and spoke about how the installation of CCTV cameras, increasing patrolling and increasing lighting facilities in the colonies were the need of the hour because these would prevent persons selling and buying drugs. According to a senior official of TNSCB it is clear that the colonies would be illuminated soon.
