These categories include cleanliness, energy audit and water audit at 19 suburban railway stations belonging to Chennai city including the terminal stations of Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Central, Egmore and Chennai Beach station. To implement the NGT order, Indian railways had initially directed 36 railway stations across India. The point is this direction was modified to include as many as 720 railway stations. The officials have pointed out that the implementation would be monitored regularly as it is an initiative of the railway board. A senior official later explained about how as a part of the same plan the Dr.MGR Central station is being developed as a model station. It would serve as a benchmark for all other railway stations.
