Officials at the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry have said that they would not be moving the Deputy High Commission from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram, but they will think about it if the agitations continue.
They were reacting to a report in an English daily saying that the move was to be made due to harassment of a staff member by pro-Tamil supporters. Sri Lankan officials have denied the report and have said that Senior Superintendent of Police Rohan Dias was not harassed and is fine.
The Acting Head of the Chennai Mission Ameer Ajwad said that both the Tamil Nadu police and the government were giving ‘maximum support’ to safeguard Sri Lankan citizens and property and that they were ‘extremely cooperative’.
