Coming to grips with one major issue is tough. Imagine how tough it would be to come to grips with two major issues.

Heat and lack of water are the 2 major issues now in Chennai city and it is now said that the school students and teachers etc would have to tackle these two major issues starting from today. The schools would be re-opening today, 3rd June after an extended summer vacation of 50 days. In Chennai city alone, there are some 10 lakh students who would be returning to their schools today. In TN, more than 1 crore students would be returning to their schools.

On Sunday, 2nd June 2019, school education minister, Mr. Sengottaiyan spoke about how the schools in the state of TN would open as per the schedule. It is important to note that parents and teachers have demanded postponement of school reopening date due to extreme weather and water crisis now in Chennai. It must not be forgotten that just few days back it was mentioned that Puducherry had postponed the reopening of schools from 3rd June t 10th June 2019 because of extreme heat conditions there.

According to the school education minister, Mr. Sengottaiyan, since the syllabus was revised the teachers would need more time to complete the new syllabus. He added that everybody must cooperate with the department in reopening of schools. The important information is The TN Textbook and Educational Services Corporation has printed 4.72 crore books including 2.85 crore free books to students from the government schools.

On the first day of school reopening, students belonging to government schools would receive free notebooks and books. This was as per Mr. Rameswaramurugan, school education director. Another superb piece of information is MTC had said that it would allow the students to use old bus passes for the first few days. It is well known that the schools in TN were closed on 12th April that was 10 days early than usual. The main reason was due to the general elections that were held on 18th of April.

Now Chennai city is facing severe water crisis and it is clear that bore wells and erratic metro water supply would not be sufficient for the students etc. The point is a school with as many as 2000 students would need 20,000 litres of water and 2000 litres of drinking water per day.

On Sunday, 2nd June, the last day of summer vacation, there was huge crowd in both Vandalur Zoo as well as in the Guindy Children’s Park. It is now revealed that when compared to last year, the number of people with kids visiting the above mentioned two places have increased marginally on the last day of the summer vacations.
