A nationwide survey of credit rating of power utilities has shown that the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO) has the lowest in terms of financial performance and operations when compared to other four southern states. Where Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala were rated B+, Tamil Nadu was rated B.
Power utilities in Gujarat scored A+. Utilities in Maharashtra and West Bengal were scored A.
The survey was carried out by Credit Analysis and Rating Research Ltd. and Indian Credit Rating Agency (ICRA) on behalf of the Union Power Ministry. Officials of the Ministry said that the exercise was done to identify weaknesses and advise them (power utilities) on ways and means to correct the mistakes.
