Posters came up across Chennai on Friday asking for the revival of the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC). They claimed that the party would help revive the respect for Tamils. Posters had pictures of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu K. Kamaraj, former Union Minister G.K. Moopanar and his son and current Union Minister G.K. Vasan.
The TMC was floated by Mr. Moopanar and allied with the DMK in 1996 and then with the AIADMK in 2001. It was taken over by Mr. Vasan after Mr. Moopanar’s death and then merged with the Congress in 2002.
TNCC President B.S. Gnanadesikan suspended partyman S. Srikanth who had brought out the posters on the grounds of ‘indiscipline’. Mr. Vasan was also not pleased, condemning the incident and calling it ‘unacceptable’.
