More than 10 hours without power supply!! Yes, this happened in one of the most important residential locality in Chennai.

On Tuesday, 25th June 2019, T. Nagar was without power supply for more than 10 hours as 2 transformers burst. It must be noted that Muthurangan Salai and Madley Road present in T. Nagar did not have any power supply yesterday and the residents found it very difficult. Short circuit was the reason behind the bursting of 2 transformers in T. Nagar. Information is power was restored around 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm respectively in the above places.

It was around 3 am both the transformers burst due to short circuit. This has been confirmed by an official belonging to TNEB or Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. He explained how initially the power cut was thought due to the rains as T. Nagar received heavy showers late at night. Later on, it was identified that an electric short circuit was responsible for this power cut for more than 10 hours.

A resident belonging to Madley Road in T. Nagar expressed his thoughts about this long power cut. He spoke about how it took more than 10 hours for the TNEB to restore power supply in his area. It must be noted that the transformer supplied power to Madley Road, Thukaram first second and third streets and railway border end. In the same manner, the transformer present in Muthurangan Salai also supplied power to many streets in T. Nagar are known.

Problems associated with windings in the transformer could result in short circuit. This was explained by an official of TNEB. In this case, problem appeared at the cable connecting point resulting in the transformer burst. The official then shed light on how while repair works were going on power would be usually supplied by means of alternative power lines to the affected areas. Point to be noted here is the residents of T. Nagar had to put up the inconvenience caused due to absence of power supply. The temperatures have been brought down by the midnight showers and that made the lives of the residents of T. Nagar little better.
