The students’ agitation in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu will intensify, says student leader V. Prabhakaran. The agitation is now entering its 25th day. The past days have seen college students from across the State protesting against war crimes committed by Sri Lanka. They have been demanding that India cut off all ties with Sri Lanka, and close down their embassies and other institutions indefinitely.
Colleges have been closed for almost 10 days now causing concern for teachers and parents. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa released a statement saying that she supports the cause and asked the students to go back to studying.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Prabhakaran said, ‘Student representatives from all the 32 districts will attend the meeting (on Monday). We will be looking at the review of the UNHRC resolution that will come up within four months` time. We will plan programmes to put pressure on the Central government to take a tough stand against Sri Lanka.’
