The increase or decrease in the cut-off marks for the engineering admissions usually depend on the performance of the students in the class 12 examinations belonging to the TN state board.
On Sunday, the performance of the students was reflected in their engineering admissions counselling. The sensational information that has come out is the cut-off marks for the first round counselling had come down by 12 marks now. This was mainly because of the dip in the scores of the students.
It must be noted that in 2019 around 10,000 students were called for the first round of counselling and these students have scored more than 190 marks out of total 200 marks. Career consultant, Mr. Jayaprakash Gandhi pointed out that TNEA has called as many as 9872 students for the first round of counselling but the cut-off marks now has come down to 178 marks. Important point is cut-off mark in 2018 was 190 marks for the same number of students. He explained about how this could pave the way for those students who have scored 180 marks around to look out for seats in the top engineering colleges.
The cut-off marks for the last 3 years have been released by the TNEA’s official website tneaonline.in. Point to be noted here is the choice of seats is one of the important aspects in the online counselling. Mr. Jayaprakash Gandhi then explained that the students have to prepare the list of institutions and their favourite streams. He hinted that students could give any number of choices without any restriction. He finally shed light on how students with lower marks have to give more choices and those with more than 190 marks could give more than 50 choices.
Information collected is if any student is interested in any particular course then the student could select and get the information about various institutions that are offering that course. This could be obtained from the TNEA website along with the cut-off marks. It is important to mention that the engineering aspirant could choose his/her favourite course and get the details about various institutions providing those courses.
Preparing the list of institutions could be done by comparing the last 3 years cut-off marks of those streams with his/her cut-off marks. This was according to few engineering professors. By using the college names or by college codes or by streams, the students could browse for their choice. It is now said that the choice order plays a huge role in the online counselling because the computer allots the choices listed on the top.
According to Mr. Nedunchezhiyan, educational consultant, enough awareness about the online engineering counselling amongst the students was not created by DOTE and by the higher education department.
