Family members of police personnel protest on the Chennai Street for sake of water

The family members of the police personnel taking to the street in Chennai for the sake of water supply have caught the attention of many now. It must be noted that normally police personnel would be called to disperse the protestors. On Monday, the family members of these policemen came together to protest.

For 15 minutes, atleast 50 women and their children belonging to the Sembium police quarters blocked the busy Paper Mills Road of Perambur. These women held pots and demanded resumption of water supply through water tankers. Information collected is immediately police officers came to the place and dispersed the agitators and promised to solve their issues. In the last week, Chennai city received rains after many months are known. This rain in Chennai has provided huge relief for the residents from the scorching sun and helped to recharge groundwater in places where RWH structures were in place. It is worthy to mention here that those who failed to install RWH structures continue to have issues regarding water availability.

It is now revealed that the residents belonging to the police quarters in Sembium, Chennai continue to be among the worst hit by lack of water. There are as many as 100 families in 10 apartment blocks in the Sembium police quarters. Earlier water was supplied to this Sembium police quarters regularly and it became thrice a week service recently. Ten days back, the water service to this police quarters was stopped completely.

The women belonging to the police quarters in Sembium revealed that they have taken this lack of water supply issue to the attention of their police husbands, pestered with the staffs of police quarters residents welfare association and even pleaded with the officials belonging to estate welfare department. They spoke about how a solution was not provided and how their issue was unsolved. Important information is these women stood for some time and sat on the road for sometime but did not move from the place until a permanent solution was provided to them.

It should be taken into account that only after the intervention of assistant commissioner of police of Sembium, these protesting women got dispersed.  The traffic was brought to standstill along the Paper Mills Road, stretch connecting Perambur with Thiru VI Ka Nagar. For about a kilometre, hundreds of cars and two wheelers piled up and some were diverted towards Madhavaram High Road. It is revealed that many commuters belonging to north Chennai got affected.
