In future, Chennai metro smart card could be used for shopping also

Imagine a scenario where you have a metro train smart card and you are able visit the shopping malls in Chennai to purchase whatever you want and pay using that card. Sounds incredible!!

In the Chennai city there are many who use metro trains regularly. Majority of these people have a metro smart card with them is known. The superb piece of news that has emerged out is this Chennai metro smart card could be used in retail outlets also. This was according to Mr. Sampath, minister for industries. He spoke about this on Thursday, 4th July 2019 when he launched a facility to use smart cards at the Chennai metro parking lots.

He hinted that he had asked the authorities to explore the options of using Chennai metro smart cards at shopping malls and hotels. Minister threw light on how if someone is coming to Chennai city for an important work then he/she should be able to stay in a hotel, use Chennai metro and travel to his/her destination. He highlighted the importance of ease commuting to maximum possible extent.

Information collected is in the month of June in 2020 Chennai metro’s phase 1 extension project from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar would be inaugurated. For the fast expansion of the system, from October tenders would be floated for the phase 2 project. Important point is 52 km of phase-2 project would be constructed at first.

In this fast paced world, time is highly precious and saving time is very important. It is now believed that by using smart cards for making payments at the parking lots would save lots of time for the commuters. This was as per Mr. Pankaj Kumar Bansal, managing director of CMRL.

Superb piece of news is in another 10 to 15 days the process of making payments for the parking lots using smart cards would be implemented in all the metro stations in Chennai. It must be noted that 1.2 megawatt solar power plant was also inaugurated at the occasion. It was later pointed out by some sources that the metro train services between AG-DMS and Washermanpet were disrupted on Thursday morning due to overhead cable snapping.
