Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa will inaugurate 127 more low cost food outlets in Chennai. With the existing outlets meeting with resounding success, the Chennai Corporation has announced one outlet in each of the city’s 200 wards.
Chennai currently has 73 outlets. The first 15 were opened on February 19th this year and became an almost instant hit. The outlets which target people who cannot afford to compete with rising prices, sells a plate of idlis (100 gms) at Re.1, curd rice (350 gms) at Rs. 3 and sambar rice (350 gms) at Rs. 5.
More than 2,400 destitute women have got employment in the outlets that have been named ‘Amma Unavagam’.
