The National Green Tribunal has halted the construction of the K.G.S. Aranmula Greenfield international airport following complaints from nearby villages that the construction was ‘posing a threat to heritage sites, the holy river Pampa and Valathur’.
The Aranmula Heritage Village Protection Action Council stated that the project violates the Land Acquisition Act, Environment Protection Act 1986, Kerala Land Reforms Act 1963 and Kerala Conservation of Paddy and Wet Land Act 2008.
Chennai based KGS group has set up the project in association with Malaysian government owned Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad. The airport has been proposed to be built one hour from the holy temple at Sabrimala.
