Teeming devotees at Athi Varadhar - District Admin gears up to ensure safety

The State Chief Secretary and DGP visited  Kanchipuram and took stock of arrangement at the Varadaraja Perumal temple in Kanchipuram on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

After a thorough inspection and review, they said that the district administration is now fully geared up to handle any number of devotees and to make sure their visit for the Darshan of Lord Athi Vardar will have adequate safety and security measures.

Subsequently, the Chief Secretary K. Shanmugham, accompanied by DGP J K Tripathy had a session with the press on Sunday, 21st July.

They informed that there will be better coordination between various departments involved in the day to day functioning at the venue. “We will make regular visits and senior officials from other departments were also asked to visit the temple”.

2 special officers have been appointed with one of them bring the official who managed the Mahamkham event a few years ago.

The chief secretary further noted that steps are being taken to set up additional restrooms, distribute more water and biscuit packets, fitting of additional fans, setting up more signboards and maps.

Regarding the difficulties encountered in the vehicle-parking arrangements, Tripathy noted that additional 1,000 Home Guard volunteers will be deployed in three shifts to regulate queues and vehicle flow. The police are also identifying more parking locations.

The official informed: “More benches and chairs will be placed and extra medical teams will be available at exit gates. Medical teams will be ready to administer ORS solution in case of dehydration”.

Senior citizens and physically challenged will be given more attention.

Additional deployment of wheelchairs and conservancy workers will also be arranged. The Chief Secretary also noted that VIP Darshan will be streamlined without affecting the regular queue.
