In Chennai, Velachery is one important residential locality. Velachery has grown amazingly in the last few years because of the growth of IT sector in south Chennai. This place is grabbing the attention of many now. The information is on Tuesday a fire at substation created issues for the residents of Velachery.

It is revealed that the residents did not have power supply for more than 10 hours. In the early morning, a technical snag in the breaker system resulted in the power failure. It must be noted that in the afternoon the issue was rectified and the residents got power supply after that.

Point is this was the third instance where snag in the breaker system at the substation lead to power failure. On 16th December 2018, a fire resulted in the power disruption for more than 13 hours is known.

This lack of power supply on Tuesday created many problems for the residents in Sarathy Nagar, Vijaya Nagar, BalaMurugan Nagar, VGP Selva Nagar, Devi Karumariamman Nagar and Kathiravan Nagar. It was later pointed out by a resident of VGP Selva Nagar that early morning power supply disruption in their locality had resulted in the delay of many household chores.

According to a senior official belonging to Tangedco it was clear that the fire was detected in the breaker system at the Velachery substation. He added that the power supply was shut down immediately. This resulted in the power disruptions in particular places fed by breaker system.

It was pointed out by an official that alternative power supply could not be arranged to the affected places because of lack of back feeding facility other than the Taramani substation. It is important to note that currently Velachery substation is overloaded with capacity and when technical snag occurs the authorities are unable to provide alternative power supply.
