The news is because of the convective cloud formation the city of Chennai is expected to receive couple of spells of light rains in the next 2 days. It must be noted that the rains might not be significant and the presence of cloud cover might bring down the day temperatures in Chennai city.
Information is there was a brief spell of rains in some parts of Chennai on Sunday and this was after a short gap of 2 days. Clouds formed in the morning and started to intensify in the evening is known.
It was forecasted by the meteorological department that the condition of the sky is likely to be cloudy and the maximum temperature is likely to be around 35 degree Celsius. Chennai city is likely to have a minimum temperature of 28 degree Celsius. Chennai based weather blogger, Mr. Pradeep John mentioned about the formation of alto cumulous clouds in the west showing rains.
It was pointed out by Mr. Pradeep John that there would not be rains in all the places in the Chennai city but some places and suburbs would get rains. He spoke about how the mini spell of lone warrior type would be there for today, tomorrow and also on day after tomorrow.
On Sunday, the weather was not that hot when compared to Saturday and between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm the maximum temperature remained lower than 35 degree Celsius. Point to be noted is the mercury crossed 35 degree Celsius to close in on 37 degrees Celsius at 3:45 pm on Saturday.
During the southwest monsoon season, the clouds form in the west and move towards east over Chennai city. This was confirmed by an official belonging to the meteorological department. It is important to mention here that this is both advantageous as well as disadvantageous because last month Chennai city lost lots of rain after strong winds dispersed the clouds when they approached Chennai city. Since the 1st of June, Chennai city received 247.7 mm of rain against the expected 193.1 mm and this was surplus of 28% in this season.
