In the last held parliamentary elections during April and May, the election for the Vellore parliamentary constituency was scheduled on 18th April - however, based on complaints regarding illegal money transactions, the Indian Election Commission cancelled the election on this date - 18th April - for the Vellore parliamentary constituency alone.
Subsequently, the election commission had announced that the election for this Vellore parliamentary constituency will be conducted on 5th August.
Accordingly, today is 5th August, the polling has started. A. C. Shanmugam is contesting as the representative from AIADMK, Kadhir Anand is the contestant from DMK. Deepalakshmi is the contestant from the party ‘Naam Thamizhar’. Several independent contestants are also in the fray.
The Vellore parliamentary constituency consists of 6 Legislative Assembly constituencies - Vellore, Katpadi, Gudiyatham, Peranampattu, Anaikkattu (Dam), and Aarani. There are 14.32 Lakhs voters. Hectic campaigning for the contestants has been in progress in Vellore indulged by AIADMK, DMK, and Naam Thamizhar. Especially, there was hard hectic campaigning carried out by DMK and AIADMK.
Today being the Election Day (Monday, 5th August), heavy security arrangements have been made throughout the Vellore parliamentary constituency. The Election Commission officials shared that there has been heavy security arrangements in order to ensure that there are no untoward incidents.
The votes polled today will be counted on 9th August and the results are to be announced by the night.
The public will have to wait and watch whether DMK - which had captured 37 parliamentary seats in the election will also wing Vellore or whether the AIADMK, which managed to win just a single seat in the same parliamentary elections will manage to add another!
