To the delight of many heads and teachers in colleges, Higher
Education Minister P. Palaniappan announced that fifty one Government Science
and Arts Colleges will run 398 new academic programs. The colleges are from
across Tamil Nadu. He also announced that 827 new teachers will be recruited
for the programs. The announcement for new teachers pleased Principal of Queen
Marys College V. Kanthimathi. ‘We are facing a
faculty crunch in some departments. With more teachers, students will
definitely benefit’, she said.
Some of Chennai’s colleges to run these programs are a
Government Nandanam Arts College, Presidency College, Ambedkar Arts College in
Vyasarpadi and Bharathi Women’s College.
