The news is near Royapuram and Tondiarpet the frequency of MTC buses have reduced in the peak hours. As a result of this, many passengers face issues now.
This charge was denied by MTC and the employees mentioned that the ongoing storm water drain work and restriction along the Elephant Gate Bridge have been responsible for the slow traffic along these roads.
A regular passenger of MTC bus expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how the MTC buses scheduled to reach the Nataraja Bus stop at a gap of 15 to 20 minutes reach at the same time. He added that for nearly hour of time not a single MTC bus comes at this stop and suddenly as many as 3 MTC buses arrive together.
He was unhappy about the MTC buses operated as express or deluxe buses and not as ordinary services. Information is the express/ deluxe MTC buses included the routes 59 (Vallalar Nagar to Thiruverkadu), 159 (Thiruvottiyur to Thiruverkadu) and 37 series connecting K.K. Nagar and Vadapalani with north Chennai.
It was later pointed out by a MTC source that initially as many as 6 buses were operated along 37G but now just 3 buses are operated. This was denied by MTC which stated that all the buses were operated as per the schedule. The MTC sources finally threw light on how initially buses from Vallalar Nagar used to reach Doveton via Elephant gate Bridge but now the bridge is closed for heavier vehicles. This has led the MTC buses to take 2 km roundabout route and that has affected the timings.
