Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have announced that the ‘biscuit bandits’ have made a comeback. The bandits are known to offer biscuits that are laced with drugs that knock out the consumer, and then loot the victims of their possessions.
An RPF official said, ‘Only four cases have been reported so far this year, which is a nominal rise. RPF sleuths also say that the menace was completely eradicated from Tamil Nadu and the aforementioned cases were from neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh. In the event of resurfacing of the menace, (we have) already started spreading awareness among passengers on how not to fall prey to these thugs.
‘Biscuit bandits have changed their tactics in beguiling passengers. These days, they offer biscuits from a packet which would have a certain number of drug coated ones. For example, they would consume the top half of the biscuits, which are safe, and offer the drug-laced ones, which are at the end of the pack, to passengers.’
