It has been 6 months since AGDMS to Chennai Central stretch of CMRL was inaugurated and even now the two way traffic between Thousand Lights and LIC has not been restored.

The sources have revealed that the contractor has not yet completed the work at the entrances of the LIC metro station. As a result of this incomplete work, few more weeks would be taken to revert to the old traffic pattern. It must not be forgotten that the traffic flow in this stretch was changed nearly 8 years back to accommodate the construction of underground metro work.

It has been brought to light that the contractor Larsen & Toubro has been delaying the construction and this was later confirmed by the officials belonging to the CMRL. Works of few more entrances in the 3 stations are still pending plus there are also some ancillary works that has to be completed by the contractor. This was mentioned by a CMRL official. There is no clarity about the delay for the 6 months. Information is in the peak hours of time commuters are finding it difficult to travel through certain constricted stretches of Anna Salai and GP Road because of restricted space.

According to a senior police official it is clear that after completing the work the Chennai metro rail must hand over the road to the highways department but CMRL is yet to do. It is important to mention that Highways department handed over the road to CMRL before the construction work began and now the construction work is finished and relaying of road must be done and then given it back. The senior police official than spoke about the trial that would be carried out and finally reverting to the original traffic flow in another 2 weeks of time would be done.
