Continuous complaints are being received in large numbers that some names are not available in the voters’ list when they turn up for voting or else there are instances where the concerned voter’s name has been changed to another polling booth!
With an effort to correct the above, the election officials and staff are currently engaged in making house-to-house visits and correct the voters’ list as per details gathered.
The Election Commission has introduced a new mobile App facilitating correction of data in the voters’ list.
Accordingly, the ‘Voters self-correcting the data scheme’ was launched yesterday (Monday, 2nd September) throughout Tamil Nadu and will functioning until 30th September.
In case there are errors in the voters’ list – pertaining to corrections in the spelling of the names, age, or ge3nder, the voters themselves can carry out the necessary corrections using the App Voters Help Line.
Once the correction is carried out, the election officials/staff will visit the houses where corrections have been made and verify the same. When they visit, the concerned voters must keep at least one of the original identity documents such as Aadhar card, Passport, Driver’s Licence or Family Ration Card and show them.
After this, the corrections made by the voter will be regularised.
Generally, only the pooling booth agents are entitled to make the corrections. Presently, the Election Commission has made the facility for the voters themselves to correct the errors.
Accordingly, the voters can visit the 8095 general centres, 1662 E-service centres, 97 Voters’ Service centres set up throughout Tamil Nadu and make the corrections.
A fee of Re. 1.18 will be collected in the above centres for the corrections made.
The Chennai Metro City Corporation Commissioner and the State Election officer Prakash visited the voters’ service centre set up at the Adyar Regional Office and monitored the arrangements.
These corrections activities are slated to be completed before 30th September.
Subsequently, the draft Voters’ List will be released on 15th October.
