With the success of Amma Unavagams in Chennai city, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has announced that the low budget eateries will be opened across the State. Cities such as Trichy, Coimbatore and Madurai are eagerly looking forward to the move being implemented.
The enthusiasm for such a food outlet comes in the wake of rising prices of commodities and, therefore, food in restaurants. At an average restaurant, a patron would be able to get a plate of idlis at Rs. 20, Pongal at Rs. 32, plain vadai at Rs. 12 and plain dosai at Rs. 33. The Amma unavagams give out a plate of idlis at Re. 1, samabar rice at Rs. 5 and curd rice at Rs. 3.
