Chennai Metro Corporation to home deliver organic manure to residents

The Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to introduce a new facility to the city residents - home deliver the manure produced using the wet waste. Thus, getting quality organic manure is just a phone call away for city residents!

G Prakash, the Chennai Metro City Corporation Commissioner said that the organic manure would be sold at Rs 20 per kilogram.

He added: “The civic body had distributed around 160 tonnes of organic manure to the residents and to the city parks. Presently, we have a huge stock of 190 tonnes in hand. National Agro Foundation and Chennai Testing Laboratory Private Limited have issued quality assurance certificates to the manure produced by the Chennai Corporation”.

The Procedure

Residents who require organic manure could contact Regional Office (South) on the number 9445194802 or send a WhatsApp message. Residents should provide their address to which the manure would be delivered. Payment would be collected using cash-on-delivery mode.

A total of 4,930 tonnes of garbage is collected on a daily basis. The civic body segregates and compost 400 tonnes of organic waste. The Corporation operates 139 micro composting centers, 537 bamboo pits apart from other composting facilities.

Further, Chennai Corporation also had assured to employ dedicated conservancy worker for each of residents’ welfare association in the city for doing a door-to-door waste collection.

In this regard, an official said, “The decision was taken in a meeting with residents’ welfare associations of Adyar zone. Meeting with residents’ welfare associations of other zones will be conducted shortly”.

Further, the official added that the measure has been taken to implement source segregation more effectively. Meanwhile, the associations had demanded the civic body impose penalties against the residents who fail to segregate waste.
