Inflows equivalent to 10 days in Chennai reservoirs now

On Thursday, there was heavy rains in Chennai city is known. It is revealed that due to the heavy rains the Chennai reservoirs have received inflows equivalent to 10 days of Chennai water supply. The truth is for more than 4 months these Chennai reservoirs remained very dry. From Friday morning, as the rain got reduced in the catchment areas, there has been dip in the inflows.

It is sensational to mention here that due to the heavy rains on Thursday the total storage capacity of 4 lakes increased from 15 million cubic feet on Thursday morning to 273 million cubic feet on Friday.

Information is the reservoirs located in places like Red Hills and Sholavaram received 600 cusecs of flood water. On Friday morning, this inflow got reduced. One reservoir that got huge benefit was Poondi reservoir. This reservoir received inflow from the waterway upstream as far as AP through the Kosasthalaiyar River. On Friday, the inflow of the lake dipped from 3500 cusecs to 2242 cusecs.

It is known that Tiruvallur district got the highest volume of thundershowers on Thursday morning and as a result of that most tanks there are nearly 40% full. As many as 9 tanks have reached their capacity. This was later confirmed by an official belong to WRD.

The official spoke about how the rains have brought the inflows and how more rain was needed to sustain the inflow and to increase the storage. The important information is dry bed of Kosasthalaiyar River has got an inflow of 4000 cusecs now and it has got capacity to carry about 60,000 cusecs.

It has been predicted by the meteorological department that heavy rains would continue in the coastal places. There might be heavy rains till Sunday in one or two places of 14 districts including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Ariyalur.
