36 police personnel attached to Nehru Nagar Police Station in Kurla in Mumbai have been suspended. The policemen were caught on camera asking for bribes.
Mohammed Khan who was doing some building work in Nehru Nagar was approached by the policemen who said that they would arrest him for illegal construction if he did not pay them. He then placed a camera and caught them in the act the next time they came around. The tape was then submitted to a senior police official who took action.
Speaking to the media, Mumbai’s Police Commision Satyapal Singh said, ‘We have zero tolerance towards corruption. We want to send out a strong message... We wanted to show that we will not accept such acts. I think this sort of an incident took place for the first time.’
