In this year till now, GCC has collected Rs 809 crores as tax

On 30th September 2019, the first half of the financial year (2019-2020) ended. Information is amount of Rs 607.38 has been collected as property tax by GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation in this time period. 

It should be taken into account that GCC also collected amount of Rs 201.59 crores as professional tax in the same time period. This has been brought to light by an official release.

It must not be forgotten that in the same period in the last financial year the civic body collected Rs 320.21 crores as property tax and amount of Rs 171.4 crores as professional tax. 

From the next financial year, penalty would be imposed on the property tax defaulters. It is known that the city corporation rules mandate property owners to pay within 15 days of every year before 15th April and 15th October. In 2 terms, the property tax is being collected by the civic body is known.

The city of Chennai has got 12 lakhs buildings and from last year the civic body increased property tax rates by 50% for residential and 100% for commercial is known. It is important to mention here that GCC is the oldest municipal body of the commonwealth of countries outside Great Britain.
